Pineapple Harvest

I never met a pineapple top I didn’t like. Every time I buy a pineapple I save the top and start a new plant. All I do is strip away the little bit of meat attached to the crown then I put it in potting soil. If you look on-line you can find lots of instruction videos. Some of my plants don’t make it but there’s plenty that do. i have a back yard full of pineapple plants. This year four of them gave me babies! Yay!!

The one on the right grew top heavy. I cut them right after taking this picture because I wanted to get them before the raccoons did.

Never have I had this many bear fruit. I thought I counted five but now can’t find the other one. Maybe a critter got it.

Not sure what happened to this little guy but we will eat him, too.

I think the reason for this was my liberal application of frass which is insect fertilizer (poop). I sprinkled a few tablespoons in the pot then watered it in. This summer Mother Nature has done her own fair share of watering.

If you’re a regular follower of Eco-Gal then you read my recent blog entitled “Frass Is Hot!”. Well, it is. And it’s organic!

My friend, Laura Gritman (the Wonder Worm Woman), gave me lots of frass and because of her generosity my plants are doing great . Check out Laura’s Facebook page by clicking here .
