Creation Care Day
On Saturday, April 29, a small group of “greenies” got together at Celebration UMC to celebrate God’s beautiful Creation and to learn ways we can better protect it. We got to witness the power of the sun. We ate cookies baked in a solar cooker. We ate soup out of compostable dishes and much more. It was great. I got the wheels moving but could not have done it alone. Many thanks to Pastor Melissa Pisco and Celebration UMC for welcoming us on their campus. Thanks to our speakers Cara Fleischer, Jim McFarlane, Julie Naim and Wendy Martin for sharing all that wonderful information. I think I’m pretty green and, believe me, I learned a lot of new ways to live a greener existence. In the month of April I know of four UM churches who had Creation Care Sundays. They are busy encouraging their congregants to be better stewards of God’s Creation. In April two districts had Creation Care Days on Saturdays. The East Central District held theirs on April 15 and ours was on April 29. More United Methodists in Florida is hearing God’s call to champion sustainable solutions to our many climate problems.
