First Withdrawal From the Church Composter
I’ve blogged about this before but so far we’ve just been depositing kitchen waste into the composter. Last Thursday I made the first withdrawal. I didn’t take out much finished compost but enough to see that our operation is yielding good results. I had some new plants to put in the ground and used the compost to fill up the holes. Also, I spread a few shovels full around the camellias as a soil amendment.
Above is the Juwel 6000 that my husband and I assembled using the instruction booklet that was written in German. (Grabben sie meer die Klapper). What a trip!
Below I’ve taken off the bottom panel to rake out the black gold.
Waste that doesn’t go to waste is not wasted.
I discovered something else while performing this operation. Compost is heavy! I tried picking up my pot of compost and it wasn’t going to happen. Ended up dragging it to where I needed to use it. When I put these pictures on the church Facebook page I asked if anyone had a spare wheel barrow. Sure need one if I’m going to haul this stuff around.
