Waste to Value

You can use your money to make a difference. Buy items that are made from single use plastic. Click here to learn more. Addidas uses ocean plastic in some of its running shoes. Click here. The more we demand these types of products the more producers will include such items in their inventory.

Every Christmas I go to ETSY and type in “Recycled Plastic” then marvel at the choices that come up. I’ve given family and friends some very lovely items that were made out of garbage. Lots of crafty people all over the world have made it their mission to spend vast amounts of their time lessening the world’s load of garbage. Remember, it’s here because we can’t be bothered with reusing. It’s our wastefulness that has allowed the problem to get out of hand. The oil companies and plastics makers also get lots of credit for creating our enormous plastic waste problem. See my last blog, Plastic Wars, for more info.

This clock was made by an engineering student from Estonia. I bought it to give away but decided to keep it because it looked so good in my bedroom.

This is my plarn basket. I go here when I’m ready to start creating another tote bag. Most of them are grey and yellow or grey and white, etc. Our local grocery store (Winn Dixie) always gives out grey bags.

I’ve posted this picture before but it’s worth another look. This is probably the prettiest bag I’ve made. Not many vendors use blue bags.

Find and support craftspeople who make something useful out of garbage.

Also, carry your own reusable bags to the store so you can cut down on your contributions to the land fill.
