A Surprise Straw

When eating I out I always make sure my drink comes in a reusable cup and I never use a throw-away plastic straw. This particular habit started when I saw the researchers pull a plastic straw out of a sea turtle’s nose. Who knows how it got there? It’s hard to watch. If you’re strong enough, I’ve included the link below.

Today my friend, Lisa, gave me a great gift: a reusable, foldable straw that fits in it own little carrying case. Found it in my mailbox. What a nice surprise! Thanks, Lisa

Here’s the box my straw came in.

Little did she know that I planned on doing the same thing. I recently ordered several reusable, collapsible straws and am going to offer them to friends when we go out to eat. Some folks say they have to have a straw to drink. Okay, here’s one that you don’t throw away. It even comes with its own tiny, collapsible scrub brush.

Looks like a tiny transistor radio with antennae but It’s my new collapsible straw in it’s little case.

The amount of plastic thrown away in our world is enormous. It’s hard to look at this little straw and see a solution to an enormous problem but it’s a start. I’m encouraging all my readers to get their own reusable straw, hopefully, in their own reusable cup. When you buy a drink at Starbucks and supply your own cup they give you a ten cent discount. Not much but every little bit helps.

Below is a link to a page where you can buy your own reusable, collapsible straw.
