Welcome to Life Unplastic

As Eco-Gal I try to maintain a very positive attitude towards mankind’s appalling treatment of the environment but sometimes I get very depressed. There’s so much waste: plastic cups and straws, styrofoam clamshells, huge plastic trays of prepared food covered with even larger plastic lids, the list goes on and on.

Well, today I was pleasantly surprised. No, I was buoyed up by the discovery of Life Unplastic, a new store in Thornebrooke Village. People in the Gainesville area know the location. For those who don’t, it’s on NW 43 Street and close to NW 23rd Avenue.

A sign that’s near and dear to my heart.

Allison was delightful and very photogenic.

This little store has no plastic in it. Let me say that again:

NO PLASTIC IN IT!!!

Allison waited on us and we had a delightful conversation. I bought some bees wax which I will add to my deodorant ingredients. She gladly let me copy her recipe for deodorant. She said the bees wax makes the deodorant stick more solid. I know in my own experimenting my results were sometimes not real solid. The main reason I like making my own deodorant is because I can use the plastic container numerous times.

I bought a toilet brush made out of coconut coir and vegetable brush made from the same. She has toothbrushes made out of bamboo and so much more. If you’re trying to green up your life, check it out. She also shared her laundry soap recipe with me.

We don’t have to let single use plastic take over our lives. We don’t have to be slaves of large corporations who set us up to be wasteful. We can be more independent, save money and treat the environment more gently.
